This RSMeans Facilities Construction Estimating course is an intensive two-day class designed specifically to assist facility owners and owners representatives to expediently "get it right" in construction estimating. Topics covered include the estimating process, project costing, labor hours estimating, using the RSMeans database efficiently, site visit, quantity take-off and dealing with on-going operations issues. Means CostWorks Training
This one day program teaches attendees how to use Means CostWorks as a tool for organizing and simplifying construction cost estimating. it is designed to assist both new and experienced users in becoming more proficient and productive with this powerful estimating tool.
Means CostWorks CD_ROM contains cost information form 18 digital construction cost data books. The CostWorks database allows you to select and customize cost information data quickly, resulting in accurate estimates with a minimal investment of time. CostWorks allows cost data to be directly exported to Windows applications for calculation and preparation of estimates.
Assessing Scope of Work for Facilities Construction Estimating
This training will begin with a review of the process of construction cost estimating in a facilities/repair & remodeling evironment, then illustrates that final pricing is only as accurate as the understanding of the real SCOPE of the project. Real-life projects will be reviewed along with checklists for respective divisions.
The "big picture" estimating process, including an overview on quantity take-off & project pricing will be followed by a focus on the front-end process (SCOPING). Focus will be on the topic of Scope of Work and making the definition of the Context of Scope of Work and Process of Scope of Work.
Practical Project Management for Construction Professionals
This seminar is seperated into seven topics. It is presented through the eyes of the general contractor's project management team. Mechanical & Electrical Estimating
This seminar is tailored to fit the needs of those seeking to develop or improve their skill and to have a better understanding of how M&E estimates are prepared during the conceptual, planning, budgeting and bidding stages. Attendees will learn how the Means Mechanical & Electrical data is generated and how to use it as a valuable adaptable tool. They will practice by preparing complete and thorough cost estimates for both trades. Targeting special estimating problems for mechanical and electrical construction for commerical, industrial and large multi-family applications, the seminar features order of magnitude, square foot, assemblies and unit price estimating. Class problems provide estimating practice in square and cubic foot and assemblies estimating including plumbing, fire protection, HVAC, and electrical with discussion of comparative cost analysis of equipment and design alternatives.
Scheduling & Project Management
This seminar takes attendees through crucial phases of planning and scheduling. It shows them how to establish project priorities, develop realistic schedules and apply today's advanced management techniques to construction projects. Participants gain experience with network approaches such as Critical Path and Precedence Methods. The course places special emphasis on cost control, including use of computer-based systems. Facilities Maintenance & Repair Estimating
Using data developed in cooperation with the Army Corps of Engineers and Applied Management Engineering, this course teaches the most financially favorable maintenance, repair and replacement estimating for virtually every building system. Attendees learn step-by-step proven methods for auditing facilities; for preventative planning that helps avoid costly breakdown and remediation; associated equipment, material and crew costing; determining both in-house and contract-out service costs; and assembling all this data into a defensible annual, asset-protecting M&R plan. Practice exercises provide skill-building opportunities.
